The Ballers Memorial Fund is officially a 501 (c) (3) (non-profit) Organization.  The Internal Revenue Service has determined the Ballers Memorial Fund is exempt from Federal income tax and is officially classified as a public charity.   Donations to the Ballers Memorial Fund are officially recognized as tax exempt.  Donations to the National Kidney Foundation of Maryland are also tax exempt.

Our History:

The tournament was started by the Ballers, the greatest softball team in the history of softball teams, back in 2009. This year marks the 14th year of the Russ Shields/Ballers Invitational Golf Tournament.   How about that 2020 tournament! 

The National Kidney Foundation Serving MD and DE awarded The Ballers its Ambassador Award after our 10th year anniversary.

This tournament has raised over $166,000 benefitting the National Kidney Foundation serving Maryland and Delaware.  It takes a lot of hard work to put together such a successful event.  This is our small way to pay tribute to and relive the memory of our good friend Russ Shields, who passed away in April 2010 while waiting for a donor kidney.  Thank you for your continuing support!

This year, the tournament will be held at Worthington Manor Golf Club in beautiful Urbana, Maryland on Thursday, October 5th, 2023. The golf tournament is again an 18-hole “scramble/captain's choice” format.  The maximum for any hole will be a bogey (if all miss a par putt, you may pick up and go to the next hole).  Golden Tickets will be available for purchase onsite, maximum one per player.  Each ticket allows the purchaser one mulligan, one free throw, and shot with the Hot Shot Golf Cannon.

There will be awards for the first, second, and third place teams, as well as long drives and closest to the pin on the par threes (for men and women).

Once golfing is complete, there will be a post tournament lunch, included in the price of your admission.  After lunch, awards will be handed out to the top three finishing teams along with skill prizes. There will also be a number of raffles, for those who choose to participate. Unattended children shall receive a free kitten and a drum kit.
